HKETCO promotes HK at lantern festivals in Nantou and Taichung (14.2.2014)
The Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (HKETCO) participated for the first time in the Taiwan Lantern Festival, the largest of its kind in Taiwan. Large models of Hong Kong-style food were displayed, with videos and photos broadcast through a five-metre-tall LED television screen to show the different facets of Hong Kong and teach well-wishings in Cantonese. These gave members of the public in Taiwan a chance to learn more about Hong Kong’s traditions and customs.
HKETCO also participated in the Central Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taichung City again as a co-organiser. Under the theme of "Savor the Flavor of Hong Kong", 26 lanterns modelling on Hong Kong-style food including milk tea, egg custard tarts, curry fish balls, rice rolls, poon choi, cart noodles and others were displayed.
HKETCO Director John Leung distributed Hong Kong-style food and drinks at the Central Taiwan Lantern Festival including milk tea, soda with salted lemon, baked barbecue pork puffs and pineapple buns with butter, to allow members of the public to get a real taste of authentic Hong Kong cuisine and her culture.
